New Car Warranty

I am fully aware of the fact that the "How to Buy a Car" book, and consumer reports, and your mother all warned you about buying a "warranty" for your car. Cars are a lot different than they used to be. These days it is rare to even find a new car without power windows and air conditioning. New cars have touch screen radios, power seats, heated, seats, and even electronic parking brakes in some cases. We all need these bells and whistles, well want them, but they make cars more likely to break down or require visits to the service department to keep them running as they should. I know that $1500 seems like a lot of money to spend right now. Especially since you are only just wrapping your head around the fact that you are spending twenty, thirty, or forty thousand dollars. But it really is a small number in comparison to what you can spend once your warranty expires. I talked to a customer a few days ago that came in because his air conditioner was not working and he spent $3100 before driving away in his, now very well cooled, car. And, for the love of all that is good, if you are buying a hard top convertible do yourself a favor and beg for a good service contract. No, this doesn't mean that the car you are buying is not a good car. It just means that it is a man-made machine and will not always be perfect. The factory warranty doesn't even guarantee that your new car will have no problems during that period; it merely promises to fix and problems that you do have. It's okay if you do not believe me, or simply chose to ignore me. We'll be seeing you in the service department soon enough, and I just hope I am within ear shot when they hand you the final bill.
