The Perfect Baby Shower Gift

I am SO excited!! My friend and her hubby stopped by tonight to give Tink a belated birthday present since they missed her party. They broke the news that they are expecting. They have been trying for a while and it has finally happened for them. They are married, they work, they are prepared. Like I said, so excited!
Honestly, it was such a relief to find out about a pregnancy that I can be happy about. I realize how that sounds, but it is so true. The last baby shower I went to was horrible. The mom to be is a girl that I work with. She started having an affair with a guy at work. She is in her mid twenties and he is in his mid forties. He is also married, for like the 4th time. He has kids, he has grand kids. This girl is so excited to be having a baby...to be having his baby. I tried as hard as I could to find the perfect "I can't believe you are dumb enough to get pregnant by a married man, and stupid enough to think you will be the ONE woman that he stays with" gift. Obviously I couldn't find one of those so I just bought her a visa gift card. She'll probably end up needing the money later.
Following the news of the bimbo at work's pregnancy came news of 5 more pregnancies at work. All accidents. A couple of the girls don't have health insurance since they cannot afford it. To me that is a glaring warning that you should wait to have a baby. If you have to go on MedicAid to get prenatal care you are going to be screwed when it comes to providing for your baby.
I am sitting here waiting for Parenthood to start; the television show. LOL I have spent the last hour watching 16 and pregnant. Is it just me, or is this the worst show out there? Regardless of the argument that the show "makes other teens aware of how difficult teen pregnancy is," the truth is that it makes celebrities out of teenagers who get knocked up in high school.
I guess that is enough ranting for one night. I'm going to bed thankful for the fact that I can afford my babies and that I have my husband and family around for support. Goodnight Moon!

Prizes

Almost a year ago I found a great company called Little Diva Tutus. At first I was attracted to them because of their contributions to Layla Grace Marsh. Learn more about her story at www.laylagrace.org. I ordered a couple of tutus to help support the same cause. The more I learned about LDT, the more I just loved them. LDT makes great tutus, hair accessory, leg warmers, and some custom clothing that are perfect for Tink and Belle.
Well the great news is that the generosity just doesn't stop for the owner of LDT. Their facebook page is approaching 10,000 fans and when they hit that milestone they will be giving away a years supply of tutus to one lucky facebook fan. So search for Little Diva Tutus on facebook and "like" the page. You can also go to www.littledivatutus.com and place your own order. You won't be disappointed if you have little girls!

EOM is here

Today is the last day of the month. Ugh, I hate those words. Honestly, so does Blue Eyes. He had scheduled 2 different people to come to our house today because he assumed I had the day off. I usually have off on Tuesday and Thursday. Well, not the case when the month is ending. So, my poor hubby had to take the day off to wait at the house. Should have checked the calendar babe. :) I have not even gotten to take Tink and Belle trick or treating. The sad thing about Halloween is that it always falls on the last day of the month. Damn! This year it is a Sunday though. We close at 5pm on Sunday so I am hoping and praying that I will get to take my babies this year. It breaks my heart that I have missed all of them so far.
The "How to Buy a Car" books tell people they better come out today to get the best deal. Maybe people ignore that little piece of advice because when the month ends in the middle of the week it doesn't seem to be any busier. On a Saturday, totally different story though. I hope we can have a strong finish today so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I do not, however, want to talk to any silly people.
You know what? The other day I met a budget analyst for the Social Security Administration. I really hope he doesn't manage the company budget like he does his personal one. That would explain the trouble the SSA is in right now though.

Back to School

I have noticed that all of my friends on facebook are excited to be sending their kids back to school. They talk about how hard the summer is, how tired they are, and how they cannot wait for the first day of school.
A friend of mine lost her 2 year old to cancer earlier this year and it changed my whole life. My babies are not quite school age yet, but I will be so sad when they go off to school. I would love nothing more than to be a stay at home mom and spend every day with Tink and Belle. I love them, so much that it hurts sometimes. I feel like someone needs to tell parents to quit bitching about taking care of their kids. To think about couples, who try and try to get pregnant without success. About mothers that have carried babies knowing that it puts their own life in jeopardy. About Parents who have fought with everything they had to keep their children alive; only to lose the battle anyway.
Today's lesson is, basically, be thrilled that your children are healthy enough to go to school. Kiss them, hug them, miss them, love them. There are moms and dads out there that will never walk their little ones to a first day of kindergarten.

And it begins....potty training

With our older daughter potty training was a breeze. One day she just decided that she didn't want to wear diapers anymore. From then on she was in "big girl panties" all the time.
I have no clue why we thought that potty training would be just as easy the second time around. But, boy were we way off. Belle has zero interest in using the potty. Last night we did a test run since we were all at home. We put her on the potty and she didn't do anything. So we put some panties on her and agreed to take her to the bathroom every 45 minutes. Well 40 minutes later she peed. Ugh...okay hunny lets change your panties since they are wet. At 7pm we said we would take her to the bathroom every 40 minutes. She peed at 7:36. Okay, she is onto us at this point. Blue Eyes took her to the bathroom and sat her on the potty for something like 20 minutes. Again...nothing. As soon as we took her off the potty and put her panties back on she PEED ON THE FLOOR AGAIN. I really need to find a way to make this happen. I will be kind of sad because diapers are the only thing that is holding our youngest little girl in babyhood. But I know she is growing up and I know she CAN do this. We just need to figure out why she doesn't want to. Wish me luck!

Daddy's Girl

I just finished up with a customer at work. It was one of my most fun deals yet. A mother and daughter bought a new car since the daughter is going off to school. The amusing part was that the father did all of the negotiating. He had such a proud papa vibe going since he was showing his baby girl how to deal. He was very dramatic and over the top when demanding that I reduce the prices for some products. It was obvious that he was trying to show off his negotiating skills. His daughter needed to get to work so she was not even paying attention. All she knew was that she was getting a new car. I am pretty sure that she will not even remember how her dad "worked me" and "beat me up" over the pricing.
I would normally have found the whole situation annoying because parents usually teach their children that the only way to buy a car is to write a check and skip all the "extras." But this gentleman was financing to build credit for his 19 year old daughter and he knew the value of a warranty and gap coverage.
The problem with teaching your kids that financing is not a good idea and warranties "are a waste of money" is that when young people are just starting out they do not have as much money as older, more established couples. Spending a couple thousand dollars on repairs could cause a major budget shortfall or lead to excessive credit card debt. You have to make sure that people are making the choices that are right for their individual circumstances.

A Sunday Off

Yesterday we had my niece's birthday party at our house. I cannot believe she turned 4; mostly because that means that Tink will be turning 4 in three months. I usually work EVERY Sunday so getting to spend a day at home with Blue Eyes and the girls was great.
We watched a movie, went shopping, and of course, spent plenty of time swimming in the pool. The weather was great for it too! After eating and chatting for a while we all sat around and played a game of Phase 10. Have you ever played this game? Well, it is so much fun. I love skipping people, but I am really not a big fan of going out on people before they have made their phase. I'm not really sure why, I just feel bad if someone is 3 or 4 phases behind the rest of the players.
We did end up having to end the game early because it was getting late and all the little girls needed to go to bed. After my bro and sis-in-law went home my hubby and I settled in on the couch to watch the Hall of Fame game. Oh yes, it's that time again. Football every Sunday from now until February. I love it! College football hasn't started yet, but once it does that mean 4 days a week there will be football on television. Awesome isn't it?
